Introduction to 5G Measurement Events

5G measurement events are standardized tests in which mobile devices are used as measurement equipment on a large scale. The objective of these events is to enable end-to-end performance measurements of 5G networks and services, including the radio access network and the core network. This will help to ensure that any newly deployed technologies work smoothly with existing infrastructure, providing a realistic picture of how actual applications will behave on future networks. Events also provide a way for operators to test different network deployments against their own requirements, which may vary depending on factors such as coverage and mobility. 5G measurement events can be configured to capture the following types of measurements: -Downlink and uplink throughput, latency, and jitter. -Downlink transmits power, supported maximum transmit power and minimum E-UTRA receive power.

5G measurement events (5GMev) will be a culmination of industry-driven events and initiatives. The event is designed to showcase key 5G technologies and performance metrics. The 5GMev is also an opportunity to showcase 5G business applications, services, and new use cases. Measurement events provide the ability to measure and track the user experience of 5G networks. They allow operators to test how users respond in different traffic scenarios, including heavy streaming, video calling, and high-speed downloads. This helps carriers optimize their network for both mobile and fixed access. The telecommunication industry is gearing up for the launch of the 5G technology, which is expected to have a significant impact on consumer experiences and life in general. As with previous generations, 5G will present new measurement challenges to network operators and service providers. Wireless network testing tools simulate real-world customer data transmission conditions to ensure that equipment is tested under realistic, real-life conditions. 5G measurement events are a collection of user-experience measurements conducted by the mobile network operators (MNO) and device manufacturers, such as network performance, call quality, and battery life.

5G testbeds

5G testbeds will be located in multiple areas using different devices to test the different use cases of 5G connectivity. 5G measurement events are a cornerstone of the new 5G NR standard. They help ensure that your 5G device works as intended and support proper operation of the radio interface by providing foundational tools for testing during R&D, as well as during manufacturing validation. 5G measurement events will be held in many countries to assess the performance of 5G networks and devices. More than 600 companies are participating, including mobile operators and device manufacturers. 5G measurement events (CEMs and PEMs) are milestones in the 5G NR timeline that enable new features and services to be tested, measured, and verified by independent parties. This can help vendors increase conformity with specifications, improve interoperability and lead to better end-user experiences. A 5G measurement event is an application that runs on a mobile device, not necessarily a smartphone, running Android. It provides information about the user and the network conditions that affect their performance using media capture techniques and statistical models to calculate KPIs such as download speed, latency, and jitter.

5G Measurement events certification

5G Measurement Events Certification is a system of testing that checks the mobile network performance while the network is under stress from many simultaneous smartphone users. The 5G measurement events certification uses two different methods to test the network. 5G measurement events certification is for people who plan to help deploy 5G networks. They set up and monitor the performance of a 5G test environment, including antenna and RF channel instrumentation, access points, user devices, backhaul equipment, and wired/wireless networks. With this certification, you will prepare yourself to work in areas such as site acquisition & engineering teams, network planning/design teams, network optimization teams and network operations center (NOC) support teams. 5G Measurement Event Certification is an independent 3rd-party certification designed to ensure that products meet the measurements requirements of Section 5.8 of 3GPP TS 37.122. This will enable vendors of 5G NR UE and network infrastructure equipment to demonstrate compliance with the specified performance characteristics for remote PHY, for example, radio frequency (RF) efficiency and spectrum utilization, helping ensure timely availability of high capacity 5G networks.

This 5G measurement event (Meas) certification provides an overview of Meas event requirements, processes, and tests. The 5G NR Meas Event subsystem provides a vendor-independent mechanism to measure and verify sub 1 GHz radio performance on a device. The measurement event (Meas) certification process is designed to validate performance claims made by vendors in their applications for radio equipment authorization. The Meas Certification process is managed by 3GPP, with support from the CMTS communications committee via the OCA. 5G measurement events equip telecom operators with tools and methodologies to perform continuously and seamlessly testing, analyzing, and monitoring their networks. 5G measurement events certification is a certification program to test 5G devices and networks. The program involves two key aspects: designating specific locations as "5G measurement event" venues and publishing the detailed requirements that devices testing at these venues must meet. 5G Measurement Events Certification is a measurement tool that may be used by 3GPP1-compliant network elements and devices to certify compliance with the offering of 5G services in H2020 Phase 2 projects and beyond.

TELCOMA Training on 5G Measurement Events

TELCOMA conducts training sessions on 5G Measurement Events. The purpose of this training is to expose participants to the use cases, scope and objectives of 5G Measurement Events, as well as how they are used by manufacturers and operators. The workshop will include the following topics:Introduction to 5G measurement eventsOverview of the measurement event processScene description LTE scenario descriptionFrequency range measurement: sub-6 GHz, mmWave, and broadcast scenarios. Other important concepts including signal propagation modeling etc.

The TELCOMA 5G Measurement Events training course provides customers with the necessary knowledge and hands-on experience of the latest metrology requirements (5G NR and non-standalone) for testing, analysing and characterizing new generation wireless networks. It will enable participants to deploy test scenarios to implement the measurement events in their own lab or deployment scenarios, giving them the ability to assess performance of new network capabilities and applications.

This TELCOMA Training course is intended to give you the knowledge you need to be able to measure and make sure your 5G network is performing at the highest level. Additionally, this class will equip you with the tools needed to test your 5G system’s performance on different surfaces and different locations from one place.

The Measurement Event software is provided by TELCOMA, in order for the download and installation we need some additional information concerning your company. Therefore we would like to request you to send us an email with the requested information as soon as possible
