After being accused by T-Mobile CEO John Legere of 5G lies and being “dead in the water without a strategy,” Verizon’s consumer EVP Ronan Dunne retorted today that the company has been executing on its 5G strategy since dividing its business into consumer, business, and media groups: deliver meaningfully differentiated 5G to urban areas, followed by a more subtly improved experience elsewhere. China Warns India of 'Consequences' if Huawei is Barred from 5G Trials: Report
China has told India not to block its Huawei Technologies from doing business in the country, warning there could be consequences for Indian firms operating in China, sources with knowledge of the matter said. India is due to hold trials for installing a next-generation 5G cellular network in the next few months, but has not yet taken a call on whether it would invite the Chinese telecoms equipment maker to take part, telecoms minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said.
5G base stations in Beijing to reach 10,000 at year-end
Beijing will have more than 10,000 5G base stations by the end of the year, the municipal telecom authorities said Wednesday. As of July, the capital city had already constructed over 7,800 5G base stations, mainly located in its urban core zones, venues for the horticultural expo and the 2022 Winter Olympics, as well as its sub-center of Tongzhou District, according to the Beijing Communications Administration.
US Cellular prepares for 2020 5G launch amid mixed Q2 results
On the US Cellular earnings call last week, President and CEO Ken Meyers described the company’s second quarter as “competitive, but slower than expected.” Despite the loss of 26,000 postpaid subscribers, US Cellular remains optimistic about the second half of the year and is positioning itself to launch 5G in 2020.
Nokia wins 5G network deal with Vodafone New Zealand
Nokia is set to bring 5G to New Zealand, following the announcement of the first commercial 5G network available to New Zealanders by Vodafone New Zealand. Nokia will supply and integrate a 5G network for Vodafone New Zealand, which will be launched in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown in late 2019. The deal, including Nokia’s AirScale radio access network, cloud-native core and design services, provides further proof of the strength of Nokia’s end-to-end portfolio. Nokia's 5G portfolio offers operators the necessary flexibility and capabilities to deliver 5G services to both consumers and enterprises.
